Recently celebrating the seven-year anniversary of The Hub Automotive, Andrew Brunson reflects on where the shop began, how being a BBA member has helped him grow his business and what his hopes for the future are.
With many years of automobile repair experience under his belt, Brunson founded The Hub Automotive in 2012. “After years of doing the work for other people, I knew there were better ways of doing it.” He wanted to provide his community with affordable, high quality and trustworthy auto work.
Brunson’s love for Memphis led him to open his shop in the city. “I had the opportunity to move away from Memphis, but I decided to stay”. After years of business, it is clear that the love he feels for Memphis is mutual.
Customers of Hub Automotive rave about the excellent service and integrity of the business. On Facebook, the shop boasts a five-out-of-five-star review. One customer said, “The Hub is now my go-to auto repair shop for as long as I live in Memphis and this is why: Andrew and his wife Jennifer provided me with the most amazing customer service. They are such honest and personable people.”
Brunson joined the Black Business Association of Memphis to gain exposure and network with other members. His membership will be a valuable resource as he looks to the future of The Hub Automotive. “We actually plan on expanding to another location doing a different type of work: restoration work.” Brunson wants to expand his restorative work to more than just cars; he wants to use his success to give back to the community.
“We are also in the works of starting a non-profit in Memphis that would help young men.” Brunson said, “when the dreams of being a rap-star or NBA player do not work, there is a way that young men can take to take care of their family and own a home. We’re going to try to show that way.”
Andrew Brunson encourages other black business owners to “stay the course. It is going to be twice as hard as it should be, but you have to stay the course.”
The Hub Automotive is located at 2200 York Avenue and is open Monday – Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
